SECURING THE CHANGING WORLD OF ENERGY

Infrax Systems is a security and networking “pure play” offering series of interrelated operational management, communications, and grid security related products and services known as Secure Intelligent Energy Platform (SIEP). Our products enable a comprehensive and unified solution for communications and applications management of the Smart Grid. SIEP? incorporates a wide array of communications, security, device and data management tools for Smart Grid applications such as advanced metering solutions and grid optimization. Infrax's secure smart grid platform incorporates a communications transport known as GridMesh?, device and data security management known as GRiM. The secure management of the "last mile" backhaul will be necessary for utilities to implement Smart Grid applications including AMI, and Demand Side Management.

Infrax Systems focused on providing secure two-way real time communications network, (hardware encrypted) communications chipset and Grid Intrusion Management software for smart meters, intelligent devices and sensors. The company competes against Silver Spring Networks, Trilliant, Current Group, Grid Net, SmartSynch as well as the major smart meter developers that provide their own AMI infrastructure (such as Itron, Elster and Landis+Gyr).

The Utility Industry Problem

  • Like the internet does today, the utility network needs to able to connect billions of devices and still operate in a reliable and secure grid.
  • A report issued in August 2010 by Pike Research stated “Smart meter deployment continues to pick up speed in nearly all regions of the world; however, as with all information technologies introduced in the past 50 years, cyber security was at first overlooked in the rush to create a working device. Now, utilities, governments, systems integrators, device manufacturers, and nearly everyone else involved realize that smart meters and their surrounding networks can be attacked, and that cyber security measures are necessary to protect the meters and their environment”.
  • According to a report issued to Congress by the Office of Electricity Delivery and Energy Reliability, as required by Section 1309 of Title XIII of the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007. The security of any future Smart Grid is dependent on successfully addressing the cyber security issues associated with the nation’s current power grid.
  • The complexity of the grid implies that vulnerabilities exist that have not yet been identified. It is particularly difficult to estimate risk from cyber attack because of the size, complexity, and dynamic nature of the power grid and the unpredictability of potential attackers.

 The INFRAX Solution

  • Our vision is of a “SECURE GRID”, is one that fully realizes the potential that our collective innovations will bring to an industry that will see explosive growth over the next 10 years.  The “SECURE GRID” is a generation ahead of the two-way communications goal of the ‘SMART GRID’.
  • INFRAX creates a unified solution path to securely manage Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) and other Smart Grid optimization applications such as substation automation. Our product portfolio provides: 1) Network Transport and Management (secure 2 way communications), 2) Secure Smart  Sensors and Devices (Smart Meters), and 3) Threat Detection, Grid Optimization and Security, all in an integrated state-of-the-art Smart Grid solution that truly provides our customers with end to end grid management capability.
  • To provide an innovative solution to the dilemma of “last mile” connectivity, INFRAX acquired Trimax Wireless, Inc., a privately-held, leading edge designer, developer and manufacturer of advanced carrier-grade broadband wireless equipment. This technology is at the core of our GRIDMESH product.
